Frequently Asked Questions about Camp Hi-Sierra
Where is it?
- Camp Hi-Sierra is located in the middle of the Sierras at approximately 5000 feet in elevation, about 50 miles West of Yosemite National Park. For maps and directions, please visit our maps page.
How do I sign up?
- Right now you can find links to all the forms you need to sign up at forms page.
What Merit Badges are offered?
- See our list of Merit Badges offered on the Merit Badges page.
Are there older-Scout programs?
Are there younger-Scout programs?
- Once again, abso-Scoutin'-lutely! The Trail to First Class program is designed especially for first-year Scouts, to advance them as quickly as possible to First Class.
How's the water?
- Delightful! Being located in the high Sierras, Camp Hi-Sierra does have a fresh-flowing snow-fed mountain streaming running through the main camp valley and feeding our lake. Water temperatures are definitely cool, but very refreshing in the warm afternoons! As for the drinking water, we all have our favorite water fountain, but most of us think the Hi-Sierra water tastes better and clearer than city water - staff have even been known to truck down large quantities of it for cooking!
How's the food?
- Spectacular! Adult leaders and SPLs alike have consistently ranked our food on the top on their lists of camp features they liked most for several years. At Camp Hi-Sierra, we eat our meals family-style, where troops send a volunteer steward to the dining hall to bus each table and troopmates gather round with a staff member to pass food plates around and share a meal together. Forget waiting in line - spend your meal talking about your wonderful day instead!
How do I volunteer?
- If you are an adult, consider signing up as a Commissioner for a week, a great opportunity to meet other adult leaders and get to know Camp in a new way! For youth age 14 and older, consider signing up for a 2-week Counselor-in-Training program to try out the staff experience - you won't regret it!
