The Nature/Ecology Program Area operates out of the Nature Lodge, on the East bank of the North Fork Tuolomne River, across the road from the Foxfire area.
Difficulty Level 1 is our easiest level of activity.
Merit Badges ranked as Level 1 are relatively easy for most Scouts to complete. They make an excellent choice for first-year Scouts and those still working on the Trail to First Class. These are also good choices for Scouts who are focusing on something difficult as their primary activity during the week but want just a little more.
Difficulty Level 2 is our intermediate level of activity.
Merit Badges ranked as Level 2 are somewhat challenging badges. They are appropriate for second-year Scouts as well as many older Scouts and some first-year Scouts, if they have prior experience in the activity.
When non-Merit-Badge programs are ranked as Level 2, we mean they are rather challenging activities for individuals with little prior experience in the area, and engaging activities for those with some experience. Challenge yourself! Try something new!
Difficulty Level 3 is our advanced level of activity.
Merit Badges ranked as Level 3 are difficult, requiring the development of advanced skills. They make an excellent choice for Scouts who have achieved the rank of First Class or above. Scouts are definitely advised to practice their skills in the relevant areas beforehand, and reading the Merit Badge pamphlet in advance will often help considerably.
Difficulty Level 4 is our demanding level of activity. This level is the hardest level of difficulty for Merit Badges.
Merit Badges ranked as Level 4 are tough ones. These badges are wonderful challenges for campers in their 3rd, 4th, or 5th year, as well as for Scouts with an extraordinarily well-developed interest and enthusiasm for the subject. These Merit Badges are particularly time-consuming, and Scouts pursuing them should seriously limit their other commitments during the week.
Camp Hi-Sierra offers over 30 Merit Badges in several different Program Areas!
